Are you feeling unmotivated? Lost? Complacent? Trust me when I say, I’ve been there; honestly, who hasn’t?! I had an “a-ha!” moment when I realized, the reason I had been so bored and miserable was because I was a prisoner to my own fricken comfort zone!

Each of us has our own “comfort zone” which, more than an actual place, is a psychological/emotional/behavioral construct that defines the routine of our daily life. Being in one’s comfort zone implies familiarity, safety, and security. It keeps us relatively comfortable and calm, and helps us stay emotionally even, free from anxiety and worry to a great degree.

But here’s the thing, experiencing a little stress and anxiety every now and then is a good thing. Shake things up a bit! Creating a comfort zone is a healthy adaptation for much of our lives but so is stepping out of our comfort zone when it’s time to transition, grow, and transform.

Additionally, where you end up in life is predominantly the result of the little choices you make each day. Small, seemingly inconsequential, decisions can have a major impact on your life later on. Imagine you were on a flight from San Francisco to NYC. If the plane was off course by just 1 degree, where would you arrive? I don’t know the answer to that, but I do know it wouldn’t be anywhere close to NYC!

The key is to remain focused on your destination and flexible on your route. The “how” will change, just like the wind. When that happens, you must be willing and able to adjust your course and capitalize on the change.

It may seem overwhelming and daunting to step into the unknown but instead of thinking of the “big picture”, it may be easier to break down what you want or need to accomplish by making small changes.
