Effortlessly chic. There’s no denying that a trench coat is a classic for a reason. It’s a great transitional season piece, the cut and shape are timeless, and you can throw it over anything and look casually elegant.
I’ve been searching for the Mr. Right of trench coats for years but wearing a trench coat oftentimes left me feeling bulky and bundled up. The look has always appealed to me, yet I was beginning to resign myself to the fact that like a few other “must-have” items, the iconic version is never going to work.
On a hunt to find a trench that worked for me, my obsession to find the perfect trench was borderline unhealthy but I needed to own one.
Enter the duster coat. The knee-length cut combined with a slouchy fit makes it the perfect solution for my need to stand out amongst the same old double breasted boring, stuffy trench.
When you’re tall, it’s totally fine to wear a coat that literally dusts the floor but being that I’m so petite (read: fun size), it’s important to find one that falls at the calf or above the ankle. Also, while I love the look of a wide leg pant under a long coat, I’ve realized that it overwhelms my body so I stick to skinny jeans or skirts.
Are you a die-hard trench coat wearer? Or have you found your own “alternative classic” version?
